Rosalie Bertell<\/big><\/b>,\u00a0PhD, GNSH<\/small>, is President of the\u00a0International Institute of Concern for Public Health<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(IICPH<\/small>), and Editor in Chief of\u00a0International Perspectives in Public Health<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Bertell served four years as Co-chair for Canada on the\u00a0Ecosystem Health Workgroup<\/span><\/b>\u00a0of the Science Advisory Board to the\u00a0US<\/small>\u00a0– Canada\u00a0International Joint Commission<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(IJC<\/small>) on the Great Lakes, and currently serves on the\u00a0IJC<\/small>\u00a0Nuclear Task Force<\/span><\/b>. She also serves as advisor to the\u00a0Great Lakes Health Effects Program<\/span><\/b>\u00a0of Health Canada, and to the\u00a0Environmental Assessment Board of Ontario<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bertell Directed the\u00a0International Medical Commission – Bhopal<\/span><\/b>\u00a0which investigated the aftermath of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, and of the\u00a0International Medical Commission – Chernobyl<\/span><\/b>, which convened the Tribunal on violations of the human rights of victims in Vienna, April\u00a01996<\/small>.<\/p>\n

She has received numerous awards and five honorary Doctorate degrees since launching the\u00a0IICPH<\/small>\u00a0in\u00a01984<\/small>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bertell is a member of the\u00a0Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bertell earned a Doctorate in Biometry at the Catholic University of America, Washington,\u00a0DC<\/small>, in\u00a01966<\/small>, and has been working ever since time in environmental epidemiology. She has collaborated in analyses undertaken in the\u00a0US<\/small>, Canada, Japan, the Marshall Islands, Malaysia, India, Germany, Ukraine and other countries.<\/p>\n

Author of\u00a0Handbook for Estimating the Health Effects of Ionizing Radiation<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(1984, 1986<\/small>) and the popular non-fiction book:\u00a0No Immediate Danger: Prognosis for a radioactive Earth<\/span><\/b>, together with more than a hundred articles, book chapters and poems, Dr. Bertell has reached medical, scientific, and popular audiences around the globe.<\/p>\n

No Immediate Danger, has been translated into Swedish, French, German and Finnish. A Russian translation is in process.<\/p>\n

By choice, Dr. Bertell works with indigenous people and economically developing countries as they struggle to preserve their human rights to health and life in the face of industrial, technological and military pollution.<\/p>\n

She was a founding member of\u00a0IICPH<\/small>, an attempt to institutionalize her growing concern for human survival on an intact planet.<\/p>\n
