A brief introduction to and overview of the three families of radioactive elements that are created inside every nuclear reactor: Fission Products (e.g. cesium-137 & iodine-131), Transuranic Actinides (e.g. Plutonium & Americium), and Activation Products (e.g. Cobalt-60 & Nickel-59). Each family of radioactive wastes has significant members that last for millions of years, Since radioactivity cannot be shut off, nuclear waste remains an unsolved problem.. Abandonment and amnesia are not solutions.
